TAZEWELL, Va. -An annual week-long showcase of Tazewell’s diverse dining options made its return Sunday, bringing new foods, prizes to be won, and support for small businesses. It’s the “Tazewell Restaurant Week,” which features eight different restaurants showcasing the variety of cuisines to be found in town.
Many of these restaurants are participating again after the success of last year’s Restaurant Week, including the catering and restaurant “Your Grate Escape.” The owner and chef, Clint Neel, says he’s looking forward to the same support this year as well.
“We want to be part of the camaraderie with all the restaurants in town, kind of showcase what we do, all the different foods that we offer and kind of give people a chance that haven’t had our food before to try it and hopefully enjoy it,” says Neel.
This week-long celebration is the work of local nonprofit “Tazewell Today,” who wanted to bring support for local businesses during a time that is typically considered the slow season.
“…It was just a way to get people out and get our restaurant supported during a time when there’s not a lot of economic activity on the streets; you know, it’s cold, it’s rainy, it’s windy…” explains Emily Combs Davis, executive director of Tazewell Today, “…We like to see a lot of people out on the streets having fun and enjoying our town, trying to bring people from the surrounding areas into our town to also enjoy our wonderful restaurants just to keep them thriving.”
But there are other incentives to get people out to the restaurants as well, such as some restaurants featuring special menu items. In addition, dining out will get you entered in a raffle for the chance to win a gift card to one the participating restaurants, with checking in or tagging the restaurant on social media giving you an extra entry.
Those we spoke to encourage everyone to try one or more of these options, with both adding that all eight restaurants are worth the trip.
“…Come out and see what Tazewell has to offer because everybody’s restaurant… has something different, and we’re all unique, and we’re all here to please the community,” says Neel.
Tazewell Restaurant Week will be running until Saturday, March 29th. You can find more information and a full list of participating restaurants on the Tazewell Today Facebook page and website.
