LOS ANGELES (KCBS/KCAL) – A group of fishermen is accusing Bumble Bee Foods, one of the largest tuna importers, of slavery.
In a landmark lawsuit, four Indonesian fishermen are suing Bumble Bee Foods saying they were abused, overworked and denied medical care.
One man, who was burned by hot oil, said he was left to suffer without food or water.
Bumble Bee Foods has not commented on the case.
This is the first known case of fishing boat slavery brought against a United States seafood company.
Industry insiders say the case could have a ripple effect on the seafood industry if the accusations hold up in court.
