Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire.

AUSTIN, Texas — A person has died following an apartment fire in East Austin.

Crews with the Austin Fire Department reported the fire Monday just before 4 p.m. as smoke was spotted coming out of an apartment window and door at the complex on Lynridge Drive.

One person and a dog were removed from the apartment before crews were able to put the fire out. However, officials said the person later died following emergency medical intervention.

Firefighters rescued the dog and said it’s expected to make a full recovery.

In the meantime, investigators are working to determine what caused the fire.
