A judge recently issued a protective order against Worthy after his arrest on a family violence charge, which was later dropped.

AUSTIN, Texas — Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has sued his former girlfriend after he was arrested for allegedly attacking her earlier this month.

In the lawsuit filed Monday against Tia Jones, Worthy claims the woman assaulted him and stole or destroyed more than $150,000 in cash and property.

Worthy was arrested after Jones accused him of assaulting her, but Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick declined to file charges in the case after speaking to multiple witnesses. Dick also said Worthy did not receive special treatment after dismissing the case.

In his lawsuit, Worthy alleges that Jones fabricated the allegations of abuse and that she became enraged after he asked her to move out of the home they were living in. He says in the lawsuit that Jones assaulted him, ripping out his hair, and destroyed his game room.

He also alleges that while he was in jail, Jones stole a handgun, $30,000 in cash, jewelry, a key to his Rolls Royce and other belongings.

An attorney for Jones, Angelica Cogliano, said Monday she had not seen the lawsuit and declined to comment. The lawsuit also comes after a Williamson County judge granted a protective order to Jones.

Worthy is seeking between $250,000 and $1 million.

Why was Worthy’s case dismissed?

Texas law requires officers to make an arrest when they respond to domestic violence calls.

According to Dick, his team decides within 15 to 18 hours of a case being filed to accept or decline charges based on evidence. In 2024, Dick said his office reviewed more than 3,900 cases and declined about 800 of them.

“That power to choose to have someone arrested and to move forward on felony charges affects a lot of people’s life. We take that responsibility very seriously,” Dick said. “We really should not be ethically moving forward with cases that we don’t believe that we’ll believe that we’ll be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt.”
