BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – According to Mercer County Prosecuting Attorney Brian Cochran, a Mercer County woman is now behind bars after being convicted of Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or a Person in a Position of Trust Allowing Sexual Abuse to be Inflicted upon a Child.

34 year old Amber Phillips of Bluefield, WV was sentenced to the maximum penalty of 5 to 15 years in prison for her crime. She was indicted in October 2022, pled guilty in March of 2023 and received her sentence today.

Cochran says the delay in sentencing was due to multiple defense lawyers withdrawing from representing Phillips prior to sentencing.

Phillips will have to register as a sex offender and serve an additional 10 years supervised release following her prison sentence.

Cochran also said that Phillips’ husband and co-defendant Eric Shawn Phillips, was previously sentenced to 20-40 years in prison by Judge Wills on September 5, 2024 for two counts of Sexual Abuse by a Parent, Guardian, Custodian, or Person in a Position of Trust.
