The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but the preliminary investigation has revealed some new details as of Tuesday afternoon.

ROUND ROCK, Texas — Round Rock police have identified the woman killed in a major collision that led to hours of lane closures on Interstate 35 on Monday.

Officers responded to the crash involving 10 vehicles, including a dump truck, shortly before noon Monday. Both the north and southbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for several hours as authorities investigated.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified as 35-year-old Alexa White of Fort Cavazos. Three others were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police said the preliminary investigation indicates a northbound vehicle made a sudden lane change, striking another vehicle and prompting other drivers to take evasive action. This chain reaction caused the dump truck to cross the concrete median and collide with southbound traffic on the interstate.

The Round Rock Police Department asks that anyone with any information about this crash contact Det. Obinna Nwachukwu at 512-671-2896 or onwachukwu@roundrocktexas.gov.

Monday’s crash was the second deadly pile-up on I-35 this month, just 8 miles north of a crash in Austin that left five people dead and several others injured. That crash has led to multiple lawsuits from victims seeking more than $150 million in damages.
