HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – West Virginia State Police are teaming up with other agencies to combat violent crime and uncover cold cases.
They have announced the formation of the West Virginia Violent Crime Task Force.
It will consist of the West Virginia State Police, the Monongalia County prosecuting attorney’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
In a statement, state police said, “The mission of the VCTF is to investigate, arrest, and prosecute offenders in violent crimes and other cold cases throughout the state of West Virginia. The VCTF acknowledges the necessity for violent crimes and cold case investigations to be completed statewide and the sheer number of investigations that are unsolved around the state.”
The task force will work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies.
They will also work with the WVSP forensic laboratory, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative and the West Virginia Intelligence Exchange.
While the task force consists of three organizations, the West Virginia State Police are responsible for the general direction of the VCTF.
