The wife of Justin Eichorn, an ex-Minnesota state senator who was arrested last week for allegedly attempting to solicit a minor for prostitution, has filed for divorce.
Brittany Eichorn, who shares four children with the former politician, filed for dissolution of marriage on Monday in Itasca County, according to local reports.
The filing comes the same day federal prosecutors argued that Justin Eichorn should remain in custody after allegedly trying to conceal evidence from investigators following his March 17 arrest.
The Republican is accused of arranging to meet an underage girl for sex. However, he was actually communicating with an undercover detective posing as a teen. He was taken into custody when he arrived for the meetup, where police recovered a condom and $129 in his car.
Following his arrest, Eichorn allegedly attempted to have a friend collect a computer from his apartment in St. Paul before investigators could seize it, despite knowing his calls were being monitored.
However, the FBI had already searched the apartment and reportedly found cash, a handgun, ammunition, memory cards and an iPhone that had been reset to its factory settings.
“Eichorn’s conduct evidences a willingness to conceal material facts from the Court and to do so at the expense of public safety,” prosecutors said.
Days before his arrest, Eichorn made national headlines as one of the author’s of a Minnesota bill that would make “Trump derangement syndrome” a state-recognized mental illness. He resigned three days after his arrest.
