WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH/Gray News) – Children often say, “Monsters are hiding under their beds,” but in Kansas, that was a true story.

A babysitter was trying to ease a child’s fears Monday night when she looked under the bed to show him nothing was there, but instead she came face to face with a man who was hiding.

According to the Barton County Sheriff’s Office, there was an altercation that left one child knocked over during the struggle.

Then, the man ran away before deputies arrived at the house.

The next morning, the suspect identified as 27-year-old Martin Villalobos Jr. was found near the home. Authorities said he was taken into custody after a short chase.

He was arrested and booked for aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated battery, child endangerment, felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer and violation of a protection of abuse order.
