A parked poultry truck stuffed with frozen chicken escaped its brakes Wednesday morning, rocketed down a hill, smashed into another vehicle and then burst into flames in Fairview, N.J., according to authorities.
Both vehicles were empty, Fairview Fire Chief Vincent Bellucci told The Bergen Record.
While no injuries were reported, the fire damaged the tractor-trailer full of chicken, as well as the vehicle it hit and the outside of a nearby unoccupied building, the Record reported.
Dramatic video showed firefighters hosing down the smoldering wreck from atop a building on Fairview’s Industrial Avenue, where the crash took place at around 6:10 a.m., according to Fairview Deputy Police Chief John Pierotti. Police were wrangling smoking chicken well into the morning.
The poultry had been destined for one of the businesses cresting the hill, the Daily Voice reported. When the brakes failed, it rolled backward downhill, veering sideways and crashing into the parked car, Pierotti said.
