A 36-year-old homeless man shot by his ex-girlfriend on a Bronx street clung to life for more than a year before dying — and now his death is considered a homicide, cops said Friday.

Kennso Morikawa-Hernandez was arguing with his ex, Ana Fernandez, 50, on Manor Ave. near Westchester Ave. in the Soundview section of the Bronx on Feb. 13, 2024, when Fernandez allegedly shot him, officials said.

EMS rushed Morikawa-Hernandez to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was initially listed in critical condition.

He remained hospitalized on a ventilator until earlier this week, when he finally succumbed to his injuries, police said. The city’s Medical Examiner declared his death a homicide.

Fernandez was arrested on assault charges a day after the shooting. At the time, the Bronx District Attorney’s Office deferred prosecution as it continued its investigation, officials confirmed.

The Bronx D.A.’s Office will determine if upgraded charges against Fernandez are warranted in Morikawa-Hernandez’s death, officials said.
