
RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT) -Governor Glenn Youngkin appointed Emily Anne Gullickson as Virginia’s superintendent of public instruction.
She had been acting superintendent for the past two weeks after the previous superintendent Lisa Coons resigned from her position.
Gullickson most recently served as Governor Glenn Younkin’s chief deputy secretary of education, overseeing early childhood, K-12, Virginia’s cultural institutions and critical initiatives of the Governor, such as AI implementation in education. She comes to this work with a background of executive, political, entrepreneurial, teaching and legal experience.
She came to Virginia in 2023 from Arizona, where she had established two nonprofit education advocacy groups.
