KEENE, N.H. (WMUR) – A New Hampshire man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s young son.
Police say it happened while his mother was running errands and the child was in the care of the 22-year-old suspect.
“The Keene Police Department have been diligently working on this case for the past year,” Peter Hinckley, New Hampshire’s senior assistant attorney general, said.
Annthoni Bliss was in court earlier in the week. He’s charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s son, 23-month-old Luca Hudson.
“A full investigation needed to be conducted and that included a full medical examination, as to the cause and nature of Luca’s death,” Hinckley said.
On the night of Jan. 13, 2024, court documents state a neighbor told police he could hear Luca crying in a way he hadn’t heard before.
The neighbor said he could hear the crying for at least a half-hour sometime between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m.
The affidavit goes on to say at 4:54 a.m. and 4:56 a.m., Bliss searched on his phone “2 year old. Head squishy” and “2 year old hit head now swollen head squishy.”
Despite the internet searches, court documents say Bliss did not tell police that Luca suffered from any head trauma. He denied hurting Luca.
Then, according to phone records, Bliss called 911 at 7:52 a.m., six hours after Luca complained of a headache.
When Keene police arrived just eight minutes later, Luca was unconscious.
The child died three days later at the hospital.

The medical examiner ruled Luca’s death a homicide, believing he died from blunt trauma to the head.
Medical records indicated Luca’s injuries were consistent with non-accidental trauma.
Bliss will be back in court next week.
