As the development is located outside city limits, the Bee Cave City Council doesn’t have any real power to prevent it from being built.

AUSTIN, Texas — The city of Bee Cave has found itself at odds with another proposed development.

The Bee Cave City Council recently voted on a resolution to officially oppose the proposed White Rocks Austin development over concerns of its impact on the environment.

The 70-acre development would be located just east of Bee Cave’s city limits on the Barton Creek Habitat Preserve. It would include 600 residential units and a 150-room luxury hotel. The building company International Development Management Co. (IDM) is currently working to obtain wastewater permits from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

Despite their opposition, the Bee Cave City Council doesn’t have any real power to prevent the project’s development as it is located outside city limits.

“We’re gonna have something that shines like a giant torch in our area,” Bee Cave City Councilman Kevin Hight said. “This is gonna cause a tremendous strain on both the highway systems and our resources.”

The isn’t the first time the community of Bee Cave has fought against a proposed development. In 2021, neighbors and environmental activists also fought against the proposed Violet Crown Amphitheater project, which would’ve been located in the same area.
