BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -If you are applying for a FEMA grant following the recent flooding, you may want to make sure that you are applying for the correct one. In a press release, FEMA says it has two separate grant programs for individual and public assistance.

An “Individual Assistance Grant” is what you apply for if you are an eligible individual or family affected the disaster if you are uninsured or under-insured and have serious needs. While it cannot cover everything lost by a disaster, it may cover renting temporary housing, repairs to your home, and other disaster-caused expenses such as replacing vehicles or medical care.

Public Assistance Grants is for governments and certain types of nonprofits. Some of the public assistance projects that this covers includes restoring buildings like schools and hospitals, restoring damaged roads or bridges, debris removal, and repairing utilities and water systems.
