(Gray News) – “Full House” star Dave Coulier is revealing more information about his cancer diagnosis.

Coulier, who played the beloved Uncle Joey on “Full House,” was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in October 2024. The cancer affects the lymphatic system.

In a new interview with Parade, the 65-year-old actor said he started treatment within days of his diagnosis because of the cancer’s aggressive nature.

He recalled the day his doctor told him that he had cancer.

“It’s funny how life just happens sometimes,” Coulier said. “Because we had been waiting to hear from doctors from, you know, some scans and bloodwork, and I was home alone with our two dogs, Ziggy and Cooper. My doctors called. They said, ‘Well, we wish we had better news for you.’ And I just went *gulp*. And they said, ‘You have non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, the most aggressive kind.‘”

Coulier recalled his doctor telling him that he would be “going in for chemotherapy next week because of the aggressive nature of this type of cancer.”

Right as he hung up the phone, his wife came home.

“First thing she said was, ‘Have you heard from the doctors? And I said, ‘Yeah I just got off the phone with them.’ She goes, ‘And?’ and I said, ‘I have cancer.’ And she said, ‘Don’t even joke around,’ and I said, ‘No,‘” Coulier remembers.

Thankfully, Coulier completed his last round of chemo in February, but the process took an incredible emotional and physical toll on his body.

He started to experience increased neuropathy, nausea, dizziness, and brain fog with each treatment.

“Some days, I just didn’t want to do anything,” Coulier told Parade, admitting that his condition got so bad by his sixth treatment, he didn’t have the will to get out of bed. “Though I wanted to move around and go out and, you know, work around the house, I just couldn’t.”

More than anything, Coulier took to heart how much his diagnosis has affected his wife, Melissa. The two married in July 2014 after nearly a decade of dating.

“After [the fifth round of] chemo, he was like, ‘I don’t know if I could do this again,‘” Melissa Coulier told Parade. “He was like, ‘I’m prepared either way. If I die, I die. And if I can stay here, great. I want to.’ Those conversations were obviously so tough.”

But Dave Coulier began to feel optimistic after he received a positive update halfway through his treatment: doctors didn’t see any more cancer cells on a PET scan.

And in recent weeks, a biopsy on a lymph node in his neck also showed no sign of cancer.

However, though things are looking up, Dave Coulier is not out of the woods just yet. He is awaiting the results of another CAT scan. If that also comes back clear, he said he’s looking forward to “ringing the bell” at the hospital with his wife by his side.

Dave Coulier also has a new reason to look forward – he became a grandfather just last week to a baby boy.

“We’re so excited,” he told Parade. ”My son and his wife live in California, so we’ll be making multiple trips to see that little boy.”
