LOWELL, W.Va. – According to Summers County Sheriff Justin Faris, a man is under arrest after he was allegedly witnessed striking a woman in public.
Deputies report they responded to a call to Lowell market on Sunday where a may was reportedly in a domestic argument that escalated to brandishing a handgun. The officers were advised the victim and suspect had left in a vehicle that was later spotted by a civilian at the Talcott Post Office.
That civilian says he witnessed the suspect, later identified as Chase Keaton, strike his victim “with a closed fist multiple times”. The witness attempted to intervene and says Keaton brandished a handgun and fled on foot.
Officers searched the area and found Keaton at John Henry Park where he was taken into custody. A firearm was found on his person.
Keaton is charged with Domestic Assault, Domestic Battery and two counts of Brandishing a Firearm.
He was taken into custody at Southern Regional Jail.
“I would like to commend all of my Deputies on their outstanding work this weekend. Most of them were off duty and spending time with their families and loved ones. I was able to send out one message and have several Deputies responding in an extremely short amount of time,” said Sheriff Faris. “I would also like to commend their families for their support and sacrifices they make for the people of Summers County. It is truly an honor to lead a great group of individuals who care for their community.”
