GRIMES COUNTY, Texas — Officials are searching for an inmate with East Texas ties who escaped custody while being taken to the hospital Monday morning.
According to the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office, Scott Evan Shepple, was last seen at the Cypress Creek Behavioral Hospital in Houston around 8:45 a.m.
Shepple had been held in the Grimes County Jail for sexual assault, resisting arrest and assaulting a peace office since Dec. 4, 2024.
“Shepple is suicidal and has violent tendencies,” the GCSO said. “He has made statements regarding ‘suicide by cop.’ He has active warrants out of Grimes County and Brazos County. He is also known to have contacts in Grimes County, Trinity County and Walker County.”


Shepple stands 5’5 and weighs about 175 lbs. He is bald with blue eyes, and has multiple tattoos on his head and neck. He was wearing a gray t-shirt and dark gray pants at the time of his escape.
