A 7-year-old Nevada girl was killed over the weekend when she was struck by a falling boulder at a popular ski resort.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Diamond Peak Ski Resort in Incline Village on the northeast shore of Lake Tahoe.
“The Diamond Peak Ski Patrol responded immediately and provided first aid while emergency services were en route,” the resort said in a statement on Monday. “Despite the emergency medical team’s best efforts, the child succumbed to their injuries.”
The medical examiner later identified the girl as Adelyn Grimes of Reno. Her death was ruled an accident.
“There was no foul play involved, and the sheriff’s office extends our deepest condolences to all involved,” the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement, calling the incident a “tragic accident.”
