AUSTIN, Texas — A 17-year-old Anderson High School senior was killed in a crash in northwest Austin on Monday morning, Austin ISD said in letter to families.
According to the Austin Police Department (APD), officers responded to the 8800 block of North Capital of Texas Highway northbound for a single-vehicle crash around 1:55 a.m. on March 31.
The driver, Malachi J. Jensen, was pronounced dead on the scene. The passenger was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to APD.
“Malachi was always smiling around campus, was a friend to many and his sense of humor and kindness were amazing additions to our classrooms and our Anderson Trojan Football Team,” Anderson High School Principal Brian Lancaster said in a letter to families. “His presence in our hallways, classrooms and athletic wing will be deeply missed.”
Lancaster said additional counselors will be on campus to provide support for students, staff and faculty this week as needed.
The crash is being investigated as Austin’s 21st fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 25 deaths. On the date of the crash in 2024, 20 fatal crashes resulted in 20 deaths.
An investigation into the crash is still ongoing, APD said.
