KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. – An alleged violation of a Domestic Violence Protective Order (DVP) has led to a misdemeanor charge against former Raleigh County Prosecutor Benjamin Hatfield.

The order was filed March 27 in Kanawha County Magistrate Court based on a March 15 incident near Dunbar. Hatfield was released on a $5,000 bond.

Hatfield was still under a protective order that was effective Sept. 30 2024 through March 31 2025 after an incident at a soccer game near Beckley where the petitiioner said he violated a previous order and came too close to her at the game and exhibited threatening behavior.

The same person, who previously had a relationship with Hatfield, had already filed a complaint in August 2024.

The March 15 incident was also at a soccer game, during which the petitioner said Hatfield allegedly intimidated and threatened her, violating the previous protective order, which was set to expire on March 31, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint also said the petitioner was hired as a referee at the Dunbar soccer game and the order did not allow Hatfield to enter her place of employment.

Hatfield resigned from his position as Raleigh County prosecutor in October 2024 after multiple investigations were initiated to look into accusations in his workplace that included misconduct, harassment and other inappropriate behaviors.

His law license in West Virginia was annulled in February by voluntary consent.
