Police said the sergeant was dragged for 30 feet “at a high rate of speed.”

AUSTIN, Texas — A motorcyclist was arrested after allegedly dragging a sergeant during a traffic stop in North Austin on Friday.

According to an arrest affidavit, police were called to the intersection of West Braker Lane and North Lamar Boulevard around 10:12 p.m. after reports of “a large number” of bikes doing wheelies and blocking traffic.

The bikes pulled into the Walnut Creek Elementary School parking lot, where officers responded.

Police said a rider, later identified as 33-year-old Yannik Rohrer, did not have a front white headlight or a rear-mounted red taillight on his motorcycle. He also allegedly pulled out in front of the intersection of West Brake Lane and the entrance of the school.

As officers attempted to detain Rohrer, he allegedly hid in the crowd of motorcycles. A sergeant located him and put his hands on his back and wrist to detain Rohrer.

According to the documents, Rohrer then “intentionally and knowingly” activated the accelerator on his motorcycle while the sergeant was still holding onto him, dragging the sergeant for 30 feet “at a high rate of speed.”

The sergeant was then able to pull Rohrer and his motorcycle to the ground and take him into custody.

Police said the sergeant suffered superficial cuts on his left arm from being dragged and complained of pain after the incident.

Rohrer was charged with evading detention in a vehicle, unlawful restraint of a peace officer and assault on a peace officer.
