WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – No note is too small for President Donald Trump.
Monday, the President tackled pricing in the entertainment industry, signing something he’s calling the BOTS order.
After vowing to combat high ticket sales on the campaign Trail President Trump is focused on lowering prices and eliminating ticket scalpers
Flanked by Kid Rock in the Oval Office, he unveiled his latest Executive Order, this one targeting ticket scalpers. The order directs the Federal Trade Commission to work with U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to enforce competition laws in the entertainment industry, known as the Better Online Ticket Sales or BOTS order.
Kid Rock was one of the big names that performed at the 2024 Republican National Committee Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“I’d like to take my take the prices lower, but if I set my ticket prices well, these bots immediately eat them up and they resell for hundreds of dollars more. I’m just making these bad actors rich.”
The president’s order will also ensure price transparency at all stages of the ticket-purchasing process. That includes the secondary ticketing market and will evaluate, and, if appropriate, whether to take action to prevent “unfair, deceptive, and anti-competitive conduct” in the secondary ticketing market.
President Trump noted how high ticket prices can go when scalpers are involved.
“It bothers a lot of other artists to. But the artists and they go out with a $100 ticket and it sells for $2,000. The following night, and they seem to be able to sweep up the best locations, which is pretty amazing.”
In the order, the Treasury Department, DOJ, and the FTC will also deliver a report within 6 months summarizing the actions taken to address unfair practices in live concert and entertainment industry. Last year ,the Bide administration sued LiveNation and TicketMaster, accusing the two ticket sales giants of an illegal monopoly.
