RAINELLE, W.Va. – According to a press release from the West Virginia State Police, a bomb threat was made at a Kroger in Rainelle on Monday.

Sergeant S. A. Murphy responded to the call of the bomb threat and found management had already evacuated the store. Kroger employees report they received a phone call from a private number and a male voice stated that a pipe bomb was inside the store and that it would be detonated if he was not given an undisclosed amount of cash.

A West Virginia State Police bomb tech and bomb detection canine responded to the scene and cleared the store.

Kroger’s management then reopened the store resuming normal business.
