Police said no arrests have been made, but they believe the teen was inside the car with other people when the shooting occurred.

AUSTIN, Texas — An investigation is underway after a teen died in northeast Austin.

Austin police say they received multiple calls about a shooting Monday around 3 a.m. on Harrisglenn Drive near East Parmer Lane.

When officers arrived, they found a 15-year-old inside a black sedan that had crashed into a utility pole. The teen, later identified as Derick Fajardo-Reyes, was taken to the hospital where he died hours later.

During their preliminary investigation, police learned that Fajardo-Reyes was in the car with other people when he was shot. Police added that before the shooting, witnesses said he was also with an unidentified woman.

Police said the shooter left the area and remains at large, but said they’re also working to identify the woman Fajardo-Reyes was with.

Fajardo-Reyes’s death is Austin’s 11th homicide of 2025.
