Madison Booker’s 17 points helped push the Longhorns past the scrappy No. 5 seed Volunteers.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team will get to continue their quest for a national championship, following a 67-59 win over Tennessee in the Sweet 16 in Birmingham on Saturday.

The No. 5 seed Volunteers brought the fight to the Longhorns, keeping it competitive throughout. But the talent of the top-seeded Longhorns came through in the end, locking up the win with a fourth-quarter effort that saw them outscore the Volunteers by 8 points.

Madison Booker led the Longhorns in scoring and was the game’s leading scorer, finishing with 17 points. Senior forward Taylor Jones was the other starter in double figures, finishing with 12 points.

Much of the Longhorns’ offensive production came from the bench, with freshmen Jordan Lee and Bryanna Preston combining for 25 of the Longhorns’ 67 points.

The win means the Longhorns will advance to their second consecutive Elite Eight and their third in the last four seasons. The Longhorns are looking to make their first Final Four since 2003.

Next up, the Longhorns will face former Big 12 rival TCU on Monday. Led by All-American and Big 12 Player of the Year Hailey Van Lith, the Horned Frogs are one of the best stories in college basketball, advancing to the Elite Eight in their first tournament appearance since the 2009-10.
