BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Four local visitors bureaus have teamed up to showcase some of the best pepperoni rolls in the area.
The Clarksburg Visitors Center, the Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Visit Upshur County and the Bridgeport Convention and Visitors Bureau have launched the West Virginia Pepperoni Roll Trail with a digital passport that allows visitors to check in at each location and earn points to collect prizes.
The trail includes the following 13 bakeries:
- Country Club Bakery in Fairmont
- D’Annunzio’s in Clarksburg
- Tomaro’s in Clarksburg
- The Donut Spot in Buckhannon
- Home Industry Bakery in Clarksburg
- Roger’s and Mazza’s in Clarksburg
- Bonnie Belle’s in Clarksburg & Bridgeport
- Colasessano’s in Fairmont
- AB Cody’s in Clarksburg
- Mama Di Roma in Fairmont
- Della’s in Bridgeport
- Munchie’s in White Hall
- Papa Joe’s in Monongah
- The Baker’s Nook in Farmington
The Great Pepperoni Roll Drop that’s held every New Year’s Eve in Mannington is also included in the trail.
To participate in the trail and try all the pepperoni rolls, click HERE. You can sign up and instantly receive the digital passport via email or text. Once downloaded, you can check in at each bakery to earn points and unlock exclusive prizes, including an official Pepperoni Roll Trail sticker, food baggie and lunch tote.
“The pepperoni roll is our beloved state food, but it was created and commercialized in Clarksburg and Marion County,” Aimee Comer, executive director of the Clarksburg Visitor Center, said. “All the original bakeries are on this trail, so people can get a real sense of our Italian Appalachian history.”
Executive Director of the Marion CVB Leah Smith agreed.
“We wanted to give people a map of where to go and what to try,” Smith said. “Everyone has their own take on it, and they’re all amazing in their own right.”
