A man was arrested after a major disturbance at a Lidl supermarket in Renfrewshire.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Johnstone High Street in Renfrewshire after the alarm was raised at around 7.50pm on Tuesday.
Shocked eyewitnesses claimed that the man allegedly “ran through the supermarket, causing chaos“.
It is understood he then climbed onto the roof of the supermarket when police arrived. Pictures taken from the scene showed riot police in attendance wearing helmets and armed with batons and shields in the supermarket car park.
Ambulance crews were also in attendance with an incident response unit vehicle pictured at the scene alongside a number of police vans, as dozens of officers stood guard at the nearby Post Office.

A police helicopter was also called in to assist with the incident.
After a prolonged stand-off with officers, a 32-year-old man was taken into custody.
He was charged in connection with the incident and was due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Wednesday.
A spokesperson confirmed no staff had been harmed during the disturbance.
They added: “No colleagues or customers were threatened or harmed. The store was closed for a short period as recommended by the police, but has since opened as normal.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police received a report of a man causing a disturbance in the High Street and Walkinshaw Street areas of Johnstone around 7.55pm on Tuesday, 1 April, 2025.
“Officers attended and a 32-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He was taken to hospital for treatment. The man is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court today, Wednesday, April 2.”
A spokesperson for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 7.54pm on Tuesday to attend an incident in Johnstone. We dispatched one ambulance and our special operations team. We treated one male patient at the scene.”
