PRINCETON, W.Va. – April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month, and for the second year, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department has joined forces with the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) to plant pinwheels in support.

The CAC partners with law enforcement, child protective services, and schools to spread awareness and provide resources for victims.

The pinwheel serves as a national symbol for child abuse prevention, representing hope and resilience.

We spoke with Lindsay Pack, the CAC program coordinator who emphasizes the importance of community involvement.

She says, “I think the biggest thing is just community awareness. You know people hear about child abuse and child neglect, and I don’t think they always realize how closely that hits to home in our community, and so really just to be involved to get awareness, to spread the word. That’s our biggest goal.”

To further support the cause, the CAC is selling t-shirts throughout April.

All proceeds go directly toward helping child abuse survivors.

Those interested can purchase a shirt on the “Child Protect Mercer County” website, Facebook page, or by visiting their office at 120 Shaker Lane in Princeton, West Virginia
