Power outage impacts 13,000 customers in the area(WDBJ7)

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A widespread power outage is impacting thousands of Appalachian Power customers in the area.

The outages include part of Bluefield, Princeton, north to Pipestem and into Monroe and Bland counties. More than 32,000 AEP customers are impacted.

AEP reports that 25,000 are without power in Mercer County. Tazwell and McDowell counties watch have more than 1,000 reported outages respectively.

A downed transmission line has been reported as the cause of the outage but that has not been confirmed by AEP.

No estimated time of restoration has yet been determined.
