The MTA Wednesday released the first wholesale update of the NYC Subway map in more than 50 years, reminiscent of the iconic 1972 subway map designed by Massino Vignelli.
The map, with clean lines and blocky landscapes, is meant to simplify wayfinding and help riders parse transfers.
“It’s the first time we’ve had a full scale revision of the map since 1979,” MTA chairman Janno Lieber said.

“It’s simpler to read, especially with respect to the connections. [And there’s] a little more accuracy in the geography than the old map.”
This is a developing story; check back for updates.
