One suspect knocked the victim to the ground, while the other shot him. The victim died from his injuries on Thursday.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department (APD) has released surveillance video showing two men suspected of shooting and killing a man near I-35 and Fourth Street.

According to APD, the incident occurred on March 31 when a man, identified as 33-year-old Rex Johnson, was walking with his blind friend who was using a cane.

The suspects then approached the two. One suspect knocked Johnson to the ground, while the other shot him. The suspects then fled eastward from the intersection.

Johnson was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries Thursday afternoon.

Suspect #1 is described as:

  • Slim built
  • Long black hair
  • Last seen wearing a white shirt, dark shorts and dark shoes.

Suspect #2 is described as:

  • Medium built
  • Last seen wearing a cap, long black sleeves shirt, gray shorts, and white and black shoes.

The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 12th homicide of 2025.
