How much do you think on-form Celtic star Daizen Maeda should be valued at?
FRASER: On current form and taking into account his age and what Celtic’s record sales have gone for then I’d put Maeda at around £20m. He can play anywhere across the frontline and his incredible energy levels and work rate is second to nobody.
SCOTT: I would say around £15million. The problem for Celtic is that Maeda turns 28 in October and his age will put a lot of top clubs off paying a big fee.
ANDY: At 27 he’s at the peak of his career so Celtic have every right to demand top dollar. The bidding should start at £15m but Celtic should be confident of it going higher if there are enough competing suitors.
League reconstruction is back on the agenda. What would your dream set-up be?
FRASER WILSON: I genuinely think the status quo is the best fit in terms of number of games for the broadcasters and number of games against the big boys for the ‘smaller clubs’. The split has been a great addition for all the drama that brings, especially when the Euro and relegation fights get condensed at the end of the season.
SCOTT BURNS: I would go for an enlarged Premiership, either 14 or 16. I think it would enhance our game but there are just too many people who are averse to change. I fear the status quo will remain.
ANDY NEWPORT: 14-team set up with a top six and bottom eight. Team that finishes top of the bottom half goes into a play-off with the final Euro qualifier to play in Conference League.
Can Barry Ferguson sort out Rangers’ defensive woes with the current squad he has?
FRASER: It’s going to be helluva tough against Bilbao on Thursday with John Souttar, his one standout centre-half, suspended. It’s not all about the back three or four either as his midfield need to provide better protection at times. It’s a tall order.
SCOTT: John Souttar is their best defender but there aren’t that many others in the backline you would put your house on. Even Jack Butland has looked a shadow of himself. Barry and the Rangers fans will need to strap themselves in again until the summer.
ANDY: There are definitely tactical tweaks that can be made to improve their leaky defence but I reckon there is a wider psychological trait at Ibrox which leads to such weaknesses and that’s only going to be fixed by upgrading the squad.
We are now 2 games away from the split. Who do you think the top 6 will be?
FRASER: Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts. The Jambos have a real big week coming up starting with Dundee United at Tynecastle tomorrow. It’s time to prove they have the mettle to get over the line.
SCOTT: Celtic, Rangers, Hibs and Aberdeen are already in the door. Dundee United have one foot through it. Hearts are in the driving seat. If they win against Dundee United they should get it, If they don’t my money would be on St Mirren.
ANDY: St Mirren have had a terrific couple of years in the top half but I think this might be the year we see all the big boys get it right with Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts leading the way in that order.
