The station was funded in part by a $3 million federal grant from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

AUSTIN, Texas — A grand opening was held Friday for a new fire station in Kyle.

Located at 110 High Road, the $7.6 million, 9,385-square-foot station, named Station 24, is the fourth station to open in Emergency Service District (ESD) 5.

The station was funded in part by a $3 million federal grant from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

Instead of a traditional ribbon cutting, leaders and firefighters unbuckled a firefighting hose as they opened the new high-tech station.

Leaders hope the new station will contribute to improved response times in the fast-growing area of eastern Hays County.

“This is an underserved area that we’ve been – just, it’s been neglected for years, and I’m glad that we can build this new station here,” Hays County ESD 5 Chief Kyle Taylor said at Friday’s event. “The response time to this area was 12 to 13 minutes, and that should be more than cut in half.”
