FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WBAY/Gray News) – A convicted killer attacked another attorney during a court hearing in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on Friday morning.

Taylor Schabusiness is serving life in prison for murdering Shad Thyrion in Green Bay in 2022.

She previously lunged out of her seat and attacked her defense attorney during a motions hearing in February 2023.

On Friday, she attacked her attorney during a preliminary hearing on a separate charge that she assaulted a prison guard at Taycheedah Correctional Institution.

According to online court records, after the attack, Schabusiness’s attorney requested to withdraw from the case. The court denied it for Friday’s hearing, but said he can move to withdraw after Friday’s proceedings.

A plea of not guilty was entered on Schabusiness’ behalf, according to online records.

Five deputies were in the courtroom with Schabusiness, who was dressed in a orange jail jumpsuit. That number increased just before Schabusiness attacked.

Deputies pinned her down and carried her out of the courtroom by her arms and legs.

The judge said he wanted to continue with the preliminary hearing with Schabusiness via video conference. A short time later, she appeared by Zoom in restraints for eight minutes before the court adjourned.

A detective took the stand during the hearing.

“While in the nurse’s office, Taylor began giggling, and then a short time later, when the nurse was in the process of removing the staple with the tweezers, Taylor lunged, initially, at the nurse, then the sergeant pushed the nurse out of the way and began to try to gain control of Taylor,” Fond Du Lac Police Department Detective Kristina Meilahn testified.

Last July, she needed medical treatment for a staple in her arm. Prosecutors say Schabusiness lunged at the nurse, and when a sergeant stepped in, Schabusiness swung a small table at the sergeant, who subdued her with pepper spray until other guards arrived to restrain her.

Last month, the judge found Schabusiness competent to face trial on the charge battery by a prisoner.
