Staff with the charter schools announced the installation of 1,771 solar panels across six campuses in Austin.

AUSTIN, Texas — IDEA Public Schools campuses in Austin are now a little bit greener.

Staff with the charter schools announced the installation of 1,771 solar panels across six campuses in Austin: Montopolis, Rundberg, Bluff Springs, Pflugerville, Parmer Park and their Health Professions campus.

The panels span 625,000 square feet of combined school property, which the school said would generate 1.03 megawatts of energy and cut electricity costs by an estimated 25%, saving IDEA an estimated $12,500 each month.

After the panels were installed, Austin Energy’s solar incentive program provided an up-front payment of over $920,000, resulting in the schools being less financially burdened as a result of the transition.
