HUNT COUNTY, Texas — Twenty-one people were arrested following the discovery of an alleged cockfighting ring in Hunt County.

According to the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office, on Sunday, around 1:40 p.m., deputies were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 600 block of HCR 1006.

“When deputies arrived on scene, they encountered a large crowd of people estimated to be near 100 individuals,” the HCSO said. “Many of the individuals fled from the scene upon learning of law enforcement’s presence. Deputies observed several dead chickens on the property along with numerous other live chickens, in which it appeared chicken fights were actively being held.”

During a search of the property, officials found fighting pits and multiple sharp blades commonly used in the fights.

“Investigators seized 65 live roosters and 10 dead roosters,” the HCSO said. “In total, 21 individuals were arrested, transported to the Hunt County Jail, and charged with a violation of Texas Penal Code 42.105 Cockfighting.”
