GREENBRIER COUNTY, W.Va. – The City of Ronceverte made a special announcement regarding one of the city’s landmarks on Monday.

“It’s my pleasure to announce that after several years of ongoing conversations with multiple folks and multiple departments at CSX and with the ongoing help of Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s office, CSX has agreed to deed the Ronceverte train depot to the city of Ronceverte,” said Deena Pack, Mayor of Ronceverte.

That very train depot hosted community members on Monday to celebrate this news and view what is soon to be a new addition to Ronceverte’s downtown.

“Well, initially, we’re thinking that the depot could be a sort of welcome center into downtown Ronceverte, and also it could be a place where we could display historical artifacts of the city. Things like that, that would let people know and learn a little bit more about Ronceverte,” Pack told WVVA.

In addition to the deed’s transfer, Mayor Pack said CSX is also granting an easement.

It allows the city, with help from senator Shelley Moore Capito’s office, to fund renovations for the depot and nearby pedestrian bridge.

“As someone who did grow up in Ronceverte and has seen the ups and downs, it’s a really great feeling and I can’t wait to see what we’re able to do with it, and I really think it’s going to be kind of like the gem and the centerpiece of downtown, so I’m really happy about it,” added Pack.

Pack also explained that you can keep up with updates on the depot by finding the City of Ronceverte on Facebook, as well as at their city council meetings which take place on the first Monday of every month.
