The newly-upgraded classroom wing will open to students in the fall.

AUSTIN, Texas — An Austin ISD campus is getting some big upgrades thanks to a voter-approved bond.

Earlier this week, the school district unveiled renovated classrooms at Odom Elementary School, which is located on Turtle Creek Boulevard in South Austin.

Construction crews also added a new secure entry vestibule and front office, as well as a dedicated school mental health center and community pantry.

The newly-upgraded classroom wing will serve third, fourth and fifth grade students and will officially open in the fall.

“We are incredibly proud to unveil the newly transformed Odom Elementary to our community,” Austin ISD Superintendent Matias Segura said in a news release. “This project is a testament to our commitment to fostering safe, supportive and engaging learning environments for our students. Thanks to Austin voters, our students will now learn in these modernized spaces.”

“This project reflects the community’s investment in our students’ futures,” Austin ISD Board Trustee Andrew Gonzales said. “By addressing the challenges of an open-concept layout, we are not only improving the physical infrastructure of the school, but also reinforcing our dedication to academic excellence and student well-being. We’re deeply grateful to the project team, Odom community and Austin voters who made this day possible.”

The renovation is the first project to be completed as a result of a bond voters passed in 2022. The bond also includes 25 schools that will receive either a full or phased modernization, as well as districtwide safety and security upgrades, repairs to failing building systems and athletic field upgrades at high schools, among other improvements.
