PINEVILLE, W.Va. – A routine traffic stop in Wyoming County last week resulted in a foot chase and drug charges involving fentanyl.

Aaron Beckett Browning, 56, is facing several charges, including possession with intent to deliver fentanyl.

According to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office’s online post, the incident started April 4 at just after 11 p.m. when Corporal Tucker Cook was in the Hanover area of the county and an SUV was seen speeding and also had a broken windshield and side mirror.

After pulling over the vehicle, the driver was identified as Browning, who kept reaching in his pockets after being told not to over officer safety concerns.

During a Terry Frisk, Browing allegedly became defensive, backing away from the officer and started running away. During the foot pursuit the suspect fell down an embankment and was apprehended.

During a body search of Browning, 160 grams of suspected fentanyl were found in his pockets as well as $780 in cash and digital scales. A vehicle search revealed two baggies containing 8 grams of marijuana and another set of digital scales.

Those substances have been sent to the WV State Police Crime Lab for further analysis and confirmation.

Browning was charged with possess with intent to deliver fentanyl, fleeing on foot, obstructing an officer and possession of marijuana less than 15 grams.

Browning remains incarcerated at Southern Regional Jail with no bond yet set.
