PINEVILLE, W.Va. – A Wyoming County man is facing numerous charges after a high-speed chase on Friday.

Joe Roger Lane, 51, was arrested after Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Matthew Perry and Sgt. Logan Cook attempted a traffic stop on Rt. 52 in the Ikes Fork area of the county.

The driver of the SUV was visually identified as Lane and officers said in a Sheriff’s Office post that they knew he did not have a valid driver’s license.

But as they pulled onto the road to make a stop, the SUV accelerated to a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner, not heeding emergency lights and siren.

The SUV turned onto a gravel road and continued to be driven recklessly and at a high rate of speed, but the driver then stopped, put the vehicle in reverse, exited the moving vehicle and fled on food. The SUV then struck Perry’s patrol vehicle.

Officers pursued the man on foot, eventually catching him, but he refused to resist arrest by not surrendering his hands until after a short physical struggle.

Lane is charged with fleeing with reckless indifference, second offense driving revoked for DUI, fleeing on foot, two counts of obstructing an officer and three counts of battery on an officer.

Lane remains incarcerated in Southern Regional Jail on a total of $25,000 cash only bond.
