AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has launched a homicide investigation after a deadly shooting in Downtown Austin on Monday evening.
The incident happened near the intersection of Third and Nueces streets around 7:29 p.m., APD said.
Police received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired in the area. Officers arrived around one minute later and found a man “with obvious signs of trauma.”
Life-saving measures were attempted before the victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:17 p.m.
APD said a person of interest has been taken into custody. There is no wider threat to the public.
The incident is being investigated as Austin’s 13th homicide of the year.
