NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV/Gray News) – An investigation into a 12-year-old giving birth has led to charges for a 19-year-old man.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Raymundo Juan Reyes Cornelio, 19, was arrested Friday for rape of a child following an investigation into the girl giving birth to a child.

Police said the girl told them that she was 11 years old when she had a “sexual encounter” with a man she met through Facebook in May 2024.

Information provided by the underage girl led detectives to execute a search warrant on the man’s Facebook account, which gave police his name and phone number.

Authorities said Cornelio was stopped on March 1 for a window tint violation. For that incident, he was issued a state misdemeanor citation for driving without a license, which led police to his address.

After Cornelio’s arrest on Friday, he was interviewed by detectives, during which he reportedly admitted to the sexual encounter with the girl. He was 18 at the time and said he believed she was 14 at the time, Metro Nashville police said.

Cornelio is currently being held at the Downtown Detention Center on a $75,000 bond.
