AUSTIN, Texas — After a stretch of warm days across Central Texas, that pattern is expected to continue throughout the weekend.
Here’s what we’re tracking.
Hot weekend
We’re tracking another period where we could get to the 90s on both Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday’s highs more likely to reach 90 because of southerly winds. Highs on Saturday should at least reach the upper 80s in spots, with some areas possibly reaching 90 for the late afternoon hours.

As for Sunday, more stout southerly flow comes in, which will allow for highs to climb into the lower 90s areawide. This is where winds could gust up to 30 mph at times.

Increased fire danger
As a result of those strong winds, we’re tracking high to very high fire danger for most of our Hill Country counties. Those winds, along with dry soils and a lack of humidity, will cause elevated to near-critical fire weather concerns for Sunday.

A Fire Weather Watch will be in effect for areas along and west of Interstate 35 for Sunday, with the exception of Mason County. With the way the National Weather Service office in New Braunfels has been tracking fire weather concerns of late, do not be surprised if this is upgraded to a Red Flag Warning.
