TAHOE, Calif. (WCAX/Gray News) – A former collegiate skier died last week in a ski accident in California, according to reports.

Ellie Curtis, a former student at Dartmouth College, died in a ski accident at Palisades Tahoe on Saturday, April 5.

Local media reported that Curtis sustained a head injury at the location.

The ski patrol responded but Curtis sadly died from her injuries.

The 25-year-old was a top skier for the Dartmouth alpine racing team and graduate of Green Mountain Valley School in Waitsfield, Vermont.

“The GMVS community is deeply saddened by the loss of Ellie Curtis ‘17 (PG ‘18), who tragically passed away in a heartbreaking skiing accident at Palisades Tahoe,” Green Mountain Valley School said in a statement. “Ellie was full of adventure, curiosity, and passion. She was a natural leader, an elite student and athlete, whose presence inspired everyone around her. Our thoughts are with Ellie’s family, friends, and everyone who loved her.”

John Dwyer was Curtis’ coach during her time at Dartmouth. He said Curtis was a “hardworking, passionate and driven student athlete whose passions went beyond the snow.”

“Ellie was kind, caring, and loved to be involved in many organizations and environmental projects,” he said. “Our hearts go out to the Curtis Family members as well as the greater Dartmouth community who knew and loved all that Ellie stood for.”
