LAS VEGAS (KVUU/Gray News) – Las Vegas police are sharing more information regarding a stabbing that occurred at an area Walmart last month.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers received a call at about 4 p.m. on March 25 for a stabbing incident at the Walmart store located on Charleston Boulevard.
Rickey Tasley, 43, was taken into police custody that evening after authorities say he stabbed three people, including security guards, with a knife he had just purchased from the store.
The guards told police they approached Tasley because they claimed he was stealing items from the store.
Tasley told police he was acting in self-defense as he believed he was being jumped by a security officer.
An arrest report stated that Tasley later told police he believed family members were conspiring to kill him and spotted over 20 shoppers that night he believed were working together to murder him, which is what led him to “prepare for the attack.”
Authorities said he purchased a pack of steak knives, alcohol, tea tree oil and running shoes that evening. Tasley said he intended to ignite attackers with the items he bought.
Police found three knives in Tasley’s front hoodie pocket. Officers said he used one of those knives to cut and strike at security guards when they tried to detain him.
According to the arrest report, a woman and two men were injured in the incident and taken to an area hospital. Two of the victims later told police they believed they were going to die.
The 43-year-old is facing charges that include mayhem with the use of a deadly weapon and battery charges. He is scheduled to appear in court on April 14.
