BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -On Sunday, people got the chance to fund services in their community, while enjoying food and fellowship.

It’s all thanks to the Bluewell Lions Club’s spaghetti fundraiser, which has been an annual tradition for more than half a century. Its long-running success continued this year, with hundreds coming out to show their support.

However, this is more than a chance to enjoy spaghetti, salad, and dessert, but is also the Bluewell Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The money raised here helps fund efforts in Bluewell and the surrounding area in everything from promoting literacy to putting up flags, baskets, and Christmas lights.

We spoke to two brothers working here who say this meal is “very important” to them, both for funding and fellowship.

“If this is successful, we can usually fund everything we need like buying new Christmas lights, those baskets wear out, the flags wear out…” says Skip Crane, president of the Bluewell Lions Club.

“The great food, the companionship that we have with one another working. It’s just community involvement working together. Together we can do anything,” says Kevin Crane, member of the Bluewell Lions Club.

The Cranes say the Bluewell Lions Club has no plans to end this tradition anytime soon. However, if you don’t want to wait until next year to help the club, they take donations year-round.

You can find out more about their work in the community on the “Bluewell Rocks” Facebook page.
