APPOMATTOX COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A cow was rescued after being stuck in a creek Friday, April 11, according to Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.

Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department responded at 7 p.m. to help rescue a farmer’s cow from a creek down a ravine on Liberty Chapel Road in Oakville. Lynchburg Fire Department says the cow could not free itself. Crews quickly developed a plan to rescue the cow, according to Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.

Lynchburg Fire Department was requested to provide additional resources and equipment for large animal technical rescue. Appomattox County Rescue Squad and Gladstone Fire and Rescue Service assisted as well.

Lynchburg Fire Department says they spent several hours using a rope and pulley system with a harness to lift the cow up the hillside. The cow was safely rescued and returned to the farmer, according to Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department.
