Gang war cops are hunting balaclava thugs and a SUV after a pensioner and child linked to the Daniel clan were seriously assaulted in what has been described as a “cowardly” attack in Glasgow.

A 72-year-old woman and 12-year-old boy were rushed to hospital when two males forced their way into a property at Egilsay Crescent in Milton and attacked the pair in the early hours of Saturday April 12. They both suffered significant injuries.

The assault is being treated as potentially linked to a number of incidents in the east and west of the country.

Detectives say extensive enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible and revealed the suspects who carried out the assault are described as two teenage males who were wearing dark clothing and balaclavas.

A dark large family-style or SUV-type car was seen in the area around the time the incident in Egilsay Crescent and officers are keen to anyone who may have seen this vehicle.

They are urging anyone with information on this car, or anyone with dash-cam, doorbell footage or personal footage, to review it and get in touch.

It comes after two homes of the Daniel clan were torched in the early hours of Monday morning in Bishopbriggs. Disturbing social media footage showed Steven ‘Bonzo’ Daniel’s house at John Marshall Drive being splashed with petrol before the front door was set alight and flames engulfing the whole property.

And another property in Colston Drive – believed to be owned by late kingpin Jamie Daniel’s brother, Norman – was also set on fire in the disturbing footage which was set to the tune of Keep on Runnin’ by the Spencer Davis Group.

Detective Chief Superintendent David Ferry, Specialist Crime Division, said: “While we believe these to be targeted attacks, I want to make it clear this violence will not be tolerated and we are following a number of lines of enquiry.

“To attack an elderly lady and a child is simply cowardly – no one should be made to feel unsafe in their own home.

“We are aware that videos of some of these fires have been posted online. The publicising and glamorising these despicable and dangerous acts is abhorrent.

“I would appeal for anyone who knows who is responsible to come forward, even anonymously and bring this behaviour to an end.

“We are using every resource at our disposal to trace those responsible for this despicable act as quickly as possible.

“We understand these incidents will be concerning for the local community but please be assured we will bring those involved to justice.

“I would urge anyone with information about any of these incidents to please get in touch.

“Plain-clothed and uniform officers will remain in the areas while our investigations continue.

“Anyone with any concerns, or any information, can approach these officers.”

The Record understands senior members of the Daniel crime clan are top of the hit list of a Dubai-based gangster who is waging war on the family.

A underworld source said the older members of the notorious Scots crime family are being targeted ‘first and foremost’.

The feud erupted in Edinburgh last month after jailed cocaine dealer Mark Richardson’s crew were blamed for stealing £500,000 worth of cocaine from a Dubai-based gangster.

The gangland war spilled over to Glasgow earlier this month when the Daniel clan were targeted for their association with Richardson.

An underworld source told the Record the senior members of the family are the prime targets but everyone with the Daniel surname is in danger.

He added long-term Glasgow rivals the Lyons were also helping the Dubai outfit.

Attacks on the Daniel clan have often been uploaded to social media with videos captioned with warnings about wiping out the ‘Daniel Virus’.

A dedicated team of officers are being supported by national resources as enquiries continue.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ferry said: “A number of arrests have already been made in connection with incidents in the East and arrests will continue over the coming days.

“If you have any information about any of these incidents, please come forward and contact us.”

A number of arrests have been made in the East and a number of warrants have been executed in Edinburgh.

Items relevant to the investigation, including weapons, have also been seized, along with drugs and cash during the execution of warrants in Edinburgh over the past few weeks.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0562 of Friday, 21 March, 2025.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
