BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The city of Bluefield has just introduced a new award inspired by the iconic Mr. Rogers, and a local law enforcement officer has become the first winner.

The Red Cardigan Helper Award, presented by Bright Futures for Mercer County Kids and funded by a grant from the Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice Delinquency Prevention, is designed to recognize community members who go above and beyond for local youth.

On Monday that award was given to Sergeant Amanda Moore of the city of Bluefield’s Police Department.

Sgt. Moore told WVVA that providing outreach to local kids is what drives her as a law enforcement officer.

Congratulations to Sgt. Moore. If you would like to learn more about The Red Cardigan Helper Award, you can check out the Facebook profile for Bluefield West Virginia’s Police Department.
